Meet six-year-old Aisha Brown!

Explore the world of spirituality through the eyes of 6-year-old Aisha Clementine Brown and her family. Aisha and the Ancestors is a picture book series about the Black family, Black history, Black contribution, and Black spirituality, especially ancestor veneration.

Aisha and the Ancestors is born from the conversations between author Nicole Walters and her oldest grandson, Aaron, following her father’s transition. Aaron wanted to ensure that though Paw Paw was no longer here, he would know all about his great grandfather through the oral tradition of family stories.

Ancestor veneration is a common practice within most traditional African folk religions like Orisha worship, Hoodoo, Voodoo, Lucumi, and others.

Aisha and the Ancestors proudly acknowledges and celebrates these cultural and religious traditions, and hopes to inspire you and your family to do the same.
